What was supposed to be a quick special meeting to take care of the procedural issues of reorganizing the committee took on a new life with Jim Vallee's announcement that he will not seek reelection. We did manage to complete the procedural issues and re-elected our officers, adopted the by-laws, and make appointments to our standing committees. Our officers are:
But the important topic of the night was the opportunity that Jim Vallee's announcement creates. As a result of that announcement the MASS GOP dispatched Joe Laporte, MASS GOP political director, to let us know that this race is now viewed as one of the most important and winnable seats in the state. State Rep Ryan Fattman also attended to deliver a similar message on behalf of Minority Leader Brad Jones. We also had 3 individuals announce their intentions to run for the seat:
All 3 of these candidates, and perhaps more, will be looking for help getting on the ballot and ultimate looking for your support in the upcoming election. This is a winnable seat, but we will need to put the work in to help one of these candidates win in the general election. Update: Glenn Jones has announced that after further consideration, he will not be running for the State Rep seat. |
