Meeting Minutes
Thursday, June 2, 2011

  1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Chair John Jewell who led the committee and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  2. Introductions: The Chair initiated self introductions and the sign in sheet was circulated.
  3. Attendance: About  10 people were in attendance
  4. Minutes: Minutes from the meeting May, 2011 meeting were e-mailed right after the meeting and are posted on the website.
  5. Treasurers Report: 
    1. Scholarship Fund: $453.00 (after $500 check to last year’s essay winner)
    2. General Fund:         $916.15 (after spending $300 for July 4th booth)

Thursday, May 5, 2011
  1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Chair John Jewell who led the committee and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.

  2. Introductions: The Chair initiated self introductions and the sign in sheet was circulated.

  3. Attendance: About  18 people were in attendance:
     
  4. Minutes: Minutes from the meeting April, 2011 meeting were e-mailed right after the meeting and are posted on the website.

  5. Treasurers Report: 
      • General Fund: $453.00 (after $500 check to last year’s essay winner)
      • Scholarship Fund: $916.15 (after spending $300 for July 4th booth)

  6. Mike Soter, Bellingham Selectman: Spoke about his successful campaign. Spent about $5200. Mike got 677 out of approx. 1200 votes. Need to find candidates to jump start their own campaign. 1000 mailings, 850 door to door, Milford radio didn't work, but RI radio did WNRI-1380. Came from Worcester. Was Democrat at one point in time. Town committees are key drivers and supporters. Only need good candidates. As soon as one election over need to recruit for next one. Victorystore.com. Great asset for mailing, developing, signs, etc. 2 ½ has to be a standard issue in any republican campaign. Don Keller show 1-2 weeks before the elction on local cable. 

  7. State Committee Reports: None

  8. Old Business: 
    • 4th of July Booth-Ray F.: Corn dogs (new) and root beer floats, but new feezer, and “power-aid”. 5 days starting on Thursday. Mike Soter offered to loan us his freezer. 
    • Del Arnold-Registrar: New registrar will be Anne Wooding replacing Mary Beth Fraser. Del will be retiring the end of June, 2011. Explained what’s involved.

  9. New Business:  
    • Scholarship Committee- 13 essays have been submitted by Franklin seniors including one who has consistently worked on our fundraisers. 
    • A. Fraser moved to have a 2nd scholarship for $250 in addition to the $500 one we already have. Motion amended by D. Grillo and 2nd by F. Symmes to have 2 - $500. Approved by a show of hands.  Mike Soter will donate $125.

  10. Next Meeting: The next full committee meeting will be at 7:30 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the training room at the Franklin Municipal Building. 

  11. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.

  1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:50 p.m. by Chair John Jewell who led the committee and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.

  2. Introductions: The Chair initiated self introductions of five (5) State Committee Members.

  3. Attendance: About 47 people were in attendance

  4. Ron Kaufman spoke and had a Q&A session

  5. Minutes: Minutes from the meeting February, 2011 meeting were e-mailed right after the meeting and are posted on the website.

  1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chair John Jewell who led the committee and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.

  2. Introductions: The Chair initiated self introductions of members and guests.

  3. Attendance: Fourteen people were in attendance:

  1. Minutes: Minutes from the meeting February, 2011 meeting were e-mailed right after the meeting and are posted on the website.

  1. Treasurers Report:

    • General Fund: $931.51

    • Scholarship Fund: $953.15

  1. State Committee Reports: Linda suggests we all check Attleboro’s website.

    • Their Lincoln Day Celebration is March 12th, 2011 at Good News Hall, 235 West Street Attleboro. To get tickets contact: Sue 508-226-8020. More information can be found under the LINCOLN REENACTORS page on their website. $15 donation.

    • The State Training for candidates in Milford was excellent. A lot of good information. Two major points, must knock on doors and Ryan Fattman used personal details in follow-up e-mails which generated votes and donations.

  1. Town Council & School Committee Candidates Topics included:

    • Snow

    • Corporate donations for capital projects

    • Discussions about types of candidates we need, potential platform pieces, fund raising ideas. John and Allan to pull together list of influential town republicans to approach for support and candidate ideas.

  1. Old Business:

    • 4th of July Volunteers-call John before next meeting

    • Want to plan for future joint meeting with Bellingham & Blackstone

  1. New Business: None

  1. Next Meeting: The next full committee meeting will be at 7:30 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2011 in the training room at the Franklin Municipal Building.

Thursday, January 6, 2011

 

 

1.     Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chair John Jewell who led the committee and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance.

2.     Introductions: The Chair initiated self introductions of members and guests.

3.     Attendance: Fifteen people were in attendance:


 

4.     Minutes: Minutes from the meeting November 2010 meeting were e-mailed right after the meeting and are posted on the website.

 

5.     Treasurers Report: No report. Ray Fioravanti was not present.

 

6.     State Committee Reports: None. Linda is at the State Committee meeting where they are electing the Chair.

 

7.     Town Council: Glenn Jones gave an update on issues before the council. Members asked him many questions.

 

8.     July 4th : The chair said we need Volunteers for our booth to set-up, stock, staff over the course of the event and take down.

·       The Touhey’s are co-chairing overall committee and anyone able to volunteer for helping with that committee are certainly welcome.     

 

9.     Fall 2011 Local Election: The chair asked the members to respond to the question: “What are the qualities we want in candidates for Town Boards and Committees? Some of the responses were:

·       A solid set of republican core values and beliefs; living within our means, provide efficient and cost effective basic services, etc.  

·       An active listener

·       Working knowledge of the processes of local government

·       Willing and able to actively hold accountable those individuals responsible for expending town funds

·       Has “common sense” and uses it to make decisions

·       Actively communicates issues they are dealing with directly to the residents

·       Is always and easily accessible to all residents

·       Actively seeks opinions on issues directly from residents

·       Is currently an active volunteer in town activities; scouts, sports, schools, churches, fraternal organizations, etc. and therefore have name recognition

 

The chair and secretary will review residents to approach who may be viable candidates or who may know someone who would be a good candidate and those who may be willing to contribute to FRTC activities.

 

10. Old Business: (Items carried forward, no discussion this meeting)

·       Election Results- Discussion of what went right and what went wrong. Ideas for improvement here and around the state.

·       Letter to all Franklin republicans about stats and energizing them towards Glenn, Susan, Matt, Ed Anguish.

·       Oktoberfest Event

·       Charter Change for Franklin- Glenn Jones no show. Allan to e-mail and post mark-up of charter changes.

  5. Treasurers Report: No report. Ray Fioravanti has just taken over as Treasurer from Jon Schulhaus.

  7. Old Business:
    1. a. Election Results- Discussion of what went right and what went wrong. Ideas for improvement here and around the state.

    2. Christmas Party – December 9th, 2010 – Alumni Restaurant – 7:00 – 11:00. We need people to bring desserts and appetizers. Please e-mail the Fraser’s at: afraser213@aol.com to let us know what you plan to bring so we don’t duplicate too much.
      Cost: $20/person included everything but alcohol wish will be a cash bar or wait service.
      Count Deadline: Nov. 30, 2010. Feel free to invite neighbors.
    3. We need new Candidates for Franklin elections:
      1. School Committee
      2. Town Council
